Seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)
What does it mean to seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness? it’s a question we all need to ponder till we come to the best understanding of it.
Our cultures in general were not designed to seek the kingdom of God. they were designed to seek what you want, what makes you happy and what society approves to be true.
We are told from young age go to school, get a job, get married, have kids and work until you retire. That’s the typical road map laid for us from a young age by society and what our parent expects us to do. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying doing all this is not right, I am just trying to help us understand where we missed the seeking of the kingdom of God from what we were told. The word seeking means pursing, Searching, Chasing, looking for, Go after and Quest for something
Pursuing
We all have dreams we want to pursue, you might already have your goals for this year that you are pursuing. Society encourages us to follow our dreams and find your passion, but what if you have the wrong dream to begin with? Yes, it’s possible to pursue the wrong dreams, and yet after getting all we want, we still are not yet happy, so what is the missing piece, well friends, l can boldly say, seeking or pursuing the kingdom of God is indeed the missing piece. When we come to this realization early, we save our time and energy pursuing the wrong things to begin with.
Chasing
My friends and l were doing some vision boards and prayer boards for this year, and l wrote in one of my vision boards “The chase is over” . What do l mean by that, l have been chasing relationships, one talking stage after another that ends up wasting my time. I got to a point where l was so tired I had no option but to lay it at the feet of Jesus. We also have some other things we chase, not just relationships, God wants us to chase his kingdom first, and every other thing will be given to us including a good relationship.
Seeking the kingdom of God and its righteousness means, seeking God’s will for your life. Jesus says in the Lord’s prayer, “let your kingdom come, let your will be done. The coming of the kingdom is the establishment of God’s will on earth. I want us to know that God has a plan for our life, and we can easily miss that plan if we are busy seeking other things in our life and not his will. So, let’s seek his will for our life daily
The verse also has a promise to it, and “all things shall be added to you”. God promised to add all things to our life if we seek his Kingdom. And that includes everything, even the ones we were pursuing. We can trust God because he is not a man that he can lair,
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I come before your present with thanksgiving and praise. I pray today that you help me seek your kingdom first and your will for my life. In Jesus’ mighty name l pray and believe, Amen.
